KTM 950 / 990 Chain Tension Guide
KTM 950 / 990 Chain Tension Guide
Measuring chain tension has always been a bit of a mission, we've been toying with different ideas about how to measure the tension accurately.
This cheap but effective little tool designed specifically for the KTM 950 / 990 works well.
1. Lean bike onto sidestand and shift transmission to neutral.
2. Square up chain tension guide T-piece under swingarm and in front of lower chain guard.
3. Slide the Chain tension guide measure on the T-piece and line up the bottom mark (0mm) with the bottom edge of the chain without applying any pressure to the chain.
4. While holding the guide steadily, push the chain up with your fingers until the upper section of the chain is taut, the top edge of the lower section of chain shouldn't be below the middle mark (35mm) or above the upper mark (40mm) of the chain tension measure for it to be in within KTM spec.
5. Adjust chain accordingly and re-measure.
